The universal design approach wants to address the specific needs and preferences of the patient during chemotherapy care. During their research, the design team found out that patients want to have the ability to have ownership over their environment. therefore, the team designed a comfortable chair that includes rotating privacy panels, rotating work surface, adjustable reading/work lights, personal charging ports, storage, independent reclining head and footrests, and even temperature control.
Furthermore, Cove Chemotherapy Infusion Chair Set by Tactile Design also includes the person who supports the patient. Most often than not, support person experience can often be forgotten. Infusions can last for several hours, Cove aims to make support person feel comfortable while giving and engaging with the patient. Furthermore, Cove is also designed with oncology nurses in mind, there’s a button interface on the rear side of the left armrest reserved for nurse-centric functions such as locking/unlocking casters, raising/lowering the chair, and emergency recline for CPR.
